Key Burdick Expressway intersection to reopen to local traffic
A key intersection on Burdick Expressway East will soon reopen to local traffic after concrete work and other items have been completed.

The intersection of Burdick Expressway East and 9th Street SE, near the entrance to Eastwood Park, will reopen to local traffic only on Saturday, July 22, in advance of the North Dakota State Fair Parade. The intersection will remain open to local traffic following the completion of the parade. A temporary three-way stop will be set up at the intersection to help control traffic.

“It’s vital to reopen this intersection, not only for the North Dakota State Fair Parade, but also for the residents who live in Eastwood Park,” said City Engineer Lance Meyer. “We appreciate the patience of the Eastwood Park residents, and we’re happy to have this important intersection available again to local traffic.”

On Saturday, the State Fair Parade will begin at the intersection of Burdick Expressway and Broadway, then travel east on Burdick Expressway to the 9th Street SE intersection before being rerouted onto 9th Street SE, then turning onto Eastern Avenue to 8th Avenue SE and into the North Dakota State Fairgrounds.

The Burdick Expressway East project, which has an expected completion date of late October, will replace the roadway, sidewalks, and curb and gutter as well as underground water, sewer and sanitary sewer lines between 9th Street SE and 15th Street SE.

During construction, through-traffic is being diverted onto Valley Street to avoid the construc-tion zones. Signs have been placed on Valley Street to direct traffic to locations impacted by Burdick’s closure, including the Roosevelt Park Zoo, Corbett Field, and businesses located in the Roosevelt Plaza. In addition, temporary traffic signals have been installed at the intersections of Valley Street and 13th Street SE and Valley Street and 27th Street SE to help manage traffic.
