“Despite a few moments of unpredictable weather, the 2014 edition of the North Dakota State Fair was exactly what we promoted that it would be: Great. Big. Fun.,” State Fair Manager Renae Korslien said. “The final result was a fun, safe, family-friendly Fair and attendees were leaving the gates with smiles on their faces.”
Korslien was pleased with a strong attendance of 314,446, which is the second largest attendance in history. The Grandstand lineup brought in good numbers as well: Lady Antebellum, 11,992; John Mellencamp, 7,198; Charlie Daniels, 5,106; Randy Houser, 7,856; Florida Georgia Line, 13,917; Three Days Grace, 6,968; and Brad Paisley, 13,074. Fairgoers showed they also like our other attractions with 4,475 at the Enduro, NPRA Bull Riding Championships drew in 2,748 in two nights; and 2,247 attended the ranch rodeos that are growing in popularity.
The free pony and horse pulls, draft horse events, and 4-H and FFA livestock shows also drew in a large crowd and the competitive exhibits department was buzzing with activity and increased entries. Livestock exhibits filled the barns and everything from woodworking to plants and flowers covered the State Fair Center. “One of the animal shows that just exploded this year was the goat show,” Korslien said. “The horse show entries have also increased greatly. We were very pleased to see the growth in participants.”
“This event would not be possible without the support of the city, county, state and all Fair fans,” said Korslien. “And we definitely could not pull this off without the staff, both individuals and organizations, who devote many hours during the Fair to assist us with everything from cleaning up the grounds to running the gates and much more. The 2014 North Dakota State Fair has been excellent, the staff is now looking forward to planning the 2015 Fair which will be held July 17-25. This will be a special milestone for us, as it is our 50th Anniversary.”
